The departure of the first steam locomotive from a railway station in Southwold in 97 years was announced by the ringing of the original Southwold Railway Company bell which was kindly loaned to the Trust for the occasion by the Southwold Museum.

The engine whistle was sounded then, in a great plume of steam, Blyth made her way down the track, traversing the level crossing to the current end of the line, before returning to the platform outside the Egg and Shovel café.

The spectacle continued with a train departing every 20 minutes during the afternoon, each time being announced by the ringing of a hand bell which was the procedure on the original railway.

Visitors enjoying the lovely weather were given plenty of opportunities to take photographs and to speak to volunteers about the locomotive which at one point pulled up in front of the railways replica wagon and van putting all three existing elements of the Trusts Heritage Train project together for another photo opportunity.
Future Blyth steam dates are as yet undecided but will be listed on this website in due course.
