Hunslet Wagonmaster LM319 is on loan to the Trust by Ted McAvoy.
Built in 1979 with works number 8926, she was delivered to the Bord na Mona in Ireland to work the peat bogs. Being kept in use longer than many of her class, she was converted to be used for tracklaying by the addition of large steel plates front and rear to protect the radiator and cab from sliding track panels.
LM319 arrived at Steamworks in 2025, kindly delivered by DP Services, having been stored at Statfold Barn for a short while. She has undergone a lot of cleaning removing both peat and fairly coarse sand from around her cab and chassis.
She is fitted with a 6 cylinder Ford diesel engine which drives a 4 speed gearbox via a hydraulic coupling. The final drive from the gear box enters a further gearbox turning the direction from longditudinal to transverse to form the jack shaft drive and providing forward and reverse gears. Her hydraulic clutch has two pedals and the drivers seat rotates so that he/she faces the direction of travel.
LM319 will retain her Bord na Mona colours (cream over brown with black below the footplate) when overhauled, the first stage of which has been the removal of her drivers door.
