Simon, We've just had confirmation that the workshop team members ARE now fully insured, so there should be no problem organising a visit. I'll check for you.

I will be coming up to the AGM on 3/8/13 and would like to visit the workshop to see how things are progressing. When will it be open around that weekend?

A disappointing outcome given the hard work which has gone into the submission and the rejection of the (three?) previous proposals. I'm finding the BBC1 programme about Planners particularly enlightening at the moment - gives an insight into the machinations of local authorities and the way planning decisions are made. Best of luck with the appeal - from the experiences shown in the programme it would seem that, provided the issues covered by objections are addressed, resubmissions are often successful. Fingers crossed.

Both the Manx Northern carriage and our own tram carriage (ex-Fintown Railway) are now protected from the elements by a most impressive tent-like structure. Heartfelt thanks to Duncan & Sons for their continued support of our cause. This has given the Manx coach a chance to dry out, which it sorely needed. Discussions are under way as to how best to go about restoring it to its former glory, so that is one positive outcome of its removal to the mainland at the very least. The frames of loco No. 7 TYNWALD are in a truly sorry state, but at least they haven't been sold for scrap!
Rest assured we will publish the latest updates on the blog as soon we have them.

Nothing quite so drastic! The Trustees are in the throes of addressing the various points upon which the application was not approved, and we get a 'free' re-submission in due course anyway. That way we might be more successful 2nd time around!

I'm as disappointed with Suffolk council as you are SRT, but since re-instating the railway for even half a mile isn't working - have you considered a demonstration line outside a museum on the site of Wenhaston; like at the museum of science and industry? Or even a demonstration line outside Southwold museum?
Just a suggestion all the same but something to think about...

They turned us down - 5 against, but 3 for. A new Blog post explaining it all (and the next steps) will be on the web very soon.

I knew Teddy Boston very well, and the main part of the layout in later years was GWR but with the Southwold line in the centre. The GWR line and the full size two foot line in the rectory grounds took up much of Teddy's time and the SR layout tended to be neglected and to suffer from Aveling and Porter, who were Teddy's two cats. They sometimes derailed GWR trains and the SR trains also encountered these gigantic rivals. Whenever I visited Cadeby, I would usually spend a few minutes rerailing the stock after one or other Moggy had visited Southwold! I can claim to be an expert on rerailing SR engines, albeit small ones!

Many of you will know the light AIlsa Green livery on the IMR. That was due to Teddy. He knew Sir Philip Wombwell Bt, the manager under Lord Ailsa and bought one of the GEM kits. Instead of painting it Indian Red, he used some Woolworth's SPRING GREEN and showed the model to Philip who fell for it! Teddy's model was the first Ailsa Green engine! Later on he gave it to me! Perhaps some day we might bring the first Ailsa Green engine along to meet its Southwold cousins again!
