Halesworth resident Jan Martin came up with ‘The Box of the SOUTHWOLD RAILWAY’ as part of her training at art college in 1980, following the interest generated by the centenary of the line the previous year. Jan designed this Memory Box as an educational resource to bring the railway’s history to life without making if a mere ‘information pack’ [...] Hektor Rous (of the Henham Estate) got in touch recently to offer us about 20 lengths of old SR track, which had been used many years ago to create support for a weeping larch tree. The structure has now collapsed and is risking the health of the tree, so Hektor wishes to remove the rails and [...] Historic SR documents Following recent press coverage regarding our new plans for the SR Heritage Centre at Wenhaston, we were contacted by local solicitors who recalled seeing in their attic a tin box full of documents relating to the closure of the railway. These have now been passed on to the Trust and promise some fascinating [...] Genuine SR way bill One of our members has donated a stock of genuine Southwold Railway way bills for sale in the shop to help our funds. Unusual things such as ice and watercress would be listed (in quantities of not less than 2 tons) along with the wagon number and delivery destination.
